Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent honors show nears, you'll find a demand for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and delight the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing above others. This is the request: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
