Between them, they have secured some of the surprising successes, suffered some of the ugliest dismissals, scored some of the surprising hundreds, and achieved some of the most surprising exceptional bowling spells in the annals of the national sport.

However this historic contest concludes, they have been, in turn, astonishing, preposterous, absurd, frustrating, and entirely, without regret, unapologetically entertaining.
