This winter transfer window proves to be a period of feverish rumour and possible big-money deals. Several notable stars are being linked with transfers away from their current clubs. This article explores some of the major figures that might be changing clubs this month.

A. Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the AFCON, this has left the forward in contention, reports suggest an important transfer is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker has a deal featuring a sizeable release clause active for a brief period at the start of the month. Recent reports indicate Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his services. Former suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to alternative options, potentially opening the door for clubs such as Liverpool or Manchester United to make a last-minute bid.

This English defender has continued to excel for Crystal Palace despite a previous move to Anfield collapsing. With his contract due to expire in the summer, this represents the London club's last opportunity to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of elite clubs, such as City and multiple European giants like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly be interested. Yet, a January exit is considered unlikely, particularly given the coach's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Welsh forward has had first-team minutes limited at Spurs this campaign. Although being the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started just a small number of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the North London club is open to a transfer for the correct price, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an interest.

Rúben Neves

This Portuguese midfielder could be poised for a return to the English top flight after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Now only twenty-eight, while his agreement ending in the summer, he is a potential opportunity. Clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been connected to the player. Additionally, there have been rumours from Spanish media that he would be prepared to accept a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced German shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barcelona following new coach Flick. Having lost his place and had surgery, a winter departure seems highly likely. Villa were once linked as a potential destination, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be expressing interest in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

This prolific England centre-forward has continued finding the net frequently in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of making the national World Cup. K. Smit

The much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ first team. This teenager is heavily tipped to complete a big-money transfer in January. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a signing valued at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
